Most of my characters have different traits but none really have extravagant physical traits, so i thought about trying out a charicaturesque portrait but at the same time keeping it stready not to fall to the grotesque side. An inspiration for such an exercise came from the Red Queen of Alice in Wonderland.

A blindfolded character with bleeding eyes that is happy about it. This can be a refference to the type of people that preffer not to see the truth, and remain happy in their world of illusions. Another thing that inspired this ideea is that some people that face The End they do anything to feel good just before they seice to exist.

As an architect student, i didn't had enough free time to attend to the life drawing sessions but i always managed to attend enough of them to show my tutors that i've been attending them. It wasn't part of an assignment but they took notice of this extracurricular activity.

Second pose of second muse. She was using the same positions as the last muse, the good thing is that i could redo and exercise certain proportions i felt i did wrong on the last session. The bad thing is that there was not much a difference, so i focused on the head as well to show that it's actually another person.

Exam sessions were close and we were suppose to prepaire our last projects - i was too tired but couldn't afford to miss the last session of life drawing of that year. The muse stood as long as the other ones before but i could not afford to spend too much time at this session either, so i coped with it by doing all the poses on a single A3 paper.

Fictional female portraits with big eyes and small lips are kind of an obssesion. This is one of the different versions of those faces i wanted to sketch. I passed the stage where i made eye proportions to big by mistake, these ones are done intentional.

Just got home from a group project done in the architecture studio and had this strong urge to draw a portrait. The character's emotion of insecurity was actually mine chanelled into drawing her - was scared because i had this strong feeling to sketch a character in the studio when i was suppose to be concentrating on our group work.

A representation of a cartoon version of me (left) and of a friend of mine (right). 'Not for anyone' means that the stars don't listen to anyone, my friend is a favorite of the stars, she tries to use one as a kite and she is allowed to but when the left character tries to kite a star, he's beeing hung up by it.

Inspired from Doctor Who when Rose Tyler looked into the Time Vortex and became 'God' or 'Bad Wolf'. It reminded of the state of nirvana, of a buddha Siddartha met when he was a boy, the buddha had a peaceful expression, he had a glow that you could not see but feel, and he was nor smiling nor crying. Of course i added tears because i wanted to make the state as expressive as Rose had.

Introduction + Life Drawing

Hello, my name is Ciprian Vasile Costas, from Campulung Moldovenesc, Romania and currently an applicant for the course of Animation (w615) at universities in the United Kingdom.
I studied at Ciprian Porumbescu Highschool of Arts in Suceava on the subject of Architecture & design for 4 year. My first 2 years were versatile, doing works of both design and artistic area, while in the last 2 i focused more on architectural works but still kept some spare time to do more artistic works at the same time. The passion for animation stirred in the middle of highschool but i followed the subject of Architecture and studied one year at Coventry University in England so i can make my parrents proud. Seven months spent there and i already gone trough a career crisis - i decided to complete all my assignments that i had left only to drop out at the end of the year and re-apply for Animation.
In this blog you shall see life drawings that i managed to do while i was in Coventry, portraits, character designs, storyboards, sketches and a few architectural works.

While at Coventry University, i attended Life Drawing classes that were optional and opened for any student, mostly architecture students and student from art courses. Me and another colleague of mine were the only architects who were attending these classes.
These were mainly exercise classes since the professor wasn't giving us much tutorials and each student had his very own style of drawing.

Same muse, different pose. We didn't had enough time so i kind of rushed it but i was getting the hand of it and prepairing for the long and final pose where we had to draw her for a longer perioud of time and on a bigger piece of paper if possible. The first poses were only 10min each.
